What is the astigmatism?

The astigmatism is a refractive error of the eye, where the picture we see is not focused on a point but on a line. The main reason is, that the shape of the cornea of the eye is not spherical but cylindrical.

The symptoms of the astigmatism

If somebody has astigmatism, he has problem by distinguishing the round numbers, 0,8,9 etc. It happens because he sees them blurry and partially double. He also has often headache, pain in the eyes or he gets tired quickly.

The treatment of the astigmatism

The easiest way is to take spectacles or contact lenses. However, the refractive surgery has excellent results against the astigmatism. In detail, we can treat it with the laser (Lasik, PRK) or with special intraocular lenses (ICL).
